How to soften clay again 4 easy tricks Microwave: Warm the clay in the microwave for 15 seconds at 750 watts to start. If the result is not yet satisfactory, simply put the modeling mass back in the microwave for another 15 seconds. Heater: Wrap the clay in a damp kitchen towel and place it on the radiator. After 2–3 hours knead the mass through and check whether it is already soft enough. If not, place the clay again in the damp kitchen towel on the radiator and test repeatedly. Damp cloth: Especially in summer this is more pleasant and sensible than the heater variant. Wrap the clay in a damp kitchen towel and leave it overnight. Knead the mass thoroughly the next day. Oil or water: Put the dried-out clay into a tightly sealable container. Add a few drops of vegetable oil or water. After about twelve hours in the closed container the mass should be pliable again.
