Vegetable Detective I Spy Picture Game

How the I Spy picture game works

Children become detectives as soon as they draw a small picture card and then move the black frame piece by piece over the matching large real photo. Their goal is to place the black frame so that it frames the image section the child previously drew as a picture card.

Interesting facts about origin, medicinal uses & botany

The playing detectives learn lots of exciting facts about regional vegetables: root, cabbage and fruit vegetables as well as stone and pome fruit varieties. The information briefly and concisely explains where the plant originally comes from, which valuable nutrients it contains and what other mysterious and interesting things are worth knowing. So that interested people can immediately recognize which plant is meant, the clear info cards are placed next to a large real photo. The individual info and picture cards can also be used separately and then simply reattached in the educational folder.

Developed with experts

Our Vegetable Detective is not only great fun but also scientifically sound. The qualified oecotrophologist and BeKi speaker Silke Schnabel-Fielk accompanied us with her expert knowledge during the game's development. As a coach for daycare and school catering, she is very familiar with the everyday world of educators, children and parents. This knowledge helped us develop a game that makes scientific findings tangible and enjoyable at a child-appropriate level.

Projects on nutrition, fruit, vegetables & health

Prompting conversations

With our Vegetable Detective I Spy picture game you can playfully start interesting conversations about nutrition and spark interest in regional, seasonal plant-based foods. Awareness of the topic often arises through doing and getting to know. The real photos of our Vegetable Detective are ideally suited for this.

Accompanying conversational prompts can serve as an introduction:
  • Which vegetable do you recognise?
  • Have you ever seen this vegetable in real life?
  • What does it look like exactly?
  • Have you ever eaten this vegetable / fruit?
  • When?
  • What does it taste like?
  • How did you like it?

Project on teeth & chewing

With our Vegetable Detective you can also take a closer look at the chewing tools and introduce them playfully to the children. Questions like: Why do our teeth look different? spark the children's interest. In the Vegetable Detective instructions you will find a prompt with a template to start a playful activity in which the children experience through their own actions which tooth is best suited for which task.

More project ideas about vegetables & fruit

The instructions contain ideas you can implement with the children. If the children, for example, are interested in beetroot, you can read about which activities you can carry out with them.

Discover. Delight. Learn. That is the Vegetable Detective I Spy picture game from KRAFT.
